Welcome to Dhilwan International Development Society [DIDS]

Culture: Forging Future Foundations

Culture is important. Why? It sets the values and ideals which a community holds. Developing a positive identity and culture is crucial in developing not only healthy human beings, but cultivating leaders and responsible citizens that take an active part in shaping the future of society for the benefit of all. DIDS enshrines the concept of “Sarbat da Bhalla” where security and prosperity for all is a foundation stone of a set of cultural values and ideals that will continue to be forged by our younger generation. Building the leaders of tomorrow…today.

DIDS = Better Governance through Community Empowerment

community.jpgBetter “Governance” is the big buzz word across public and private sector organisations. It brings together the primary stakeholders of a given service and ensures they are able to better steer its direction to best match the needs of the customer, capabilities of the supplier and policy objectives of interested governing bodies.

www.dhilwan.org - a voice for the community

keyboardvoting-300x225.jpgThe internet has opened up greater possibilities for direct communication. The DIDS model places focus on the community devising a democratic community agenda “first”, before any selection or election of representatives to help drive that agenda. This ensures that the program for DIDS stems from the needs of the community. The DIDS internet website is one channel which allows a voice for all community members and those interested in advancing the social welfare of their village. It connects those overseas with those in the village in a direct way, like Facebook but focused for village level development and cultural exchange.
